Tomorrow’s movers and shakers may be among the 11 extraordinary graduating high school seniors who were awarded Lam’s 2016 Core Values Scholarships. All of them have achieved outstanding academic results, consistently modeled leadership and service at school and in their communities, and embody strong values. Among this year’s winners is an aspiring scientist who, while still in high school, has done research on AIDS and depression at Saurashtra University in India. Another created and ran a volunteer program to help sick children in a hospital in Taiwan. Others had to persevere through significant personal challenges, yet maintained high marks in school and never lost sight of helping others. At Lam, we are extremely proud to be helping these deserving young leaders and model citizens achieve their educational and professional dreams by providing financial support through our scholarship program.

In fact, this is the 14th consecutive year we have presented the $10,000 scholarship awards, which go to students in Fremont, California (our headquarters), as well as in the Livermore, California, and Portland, Oregon, areas, where we maintain manufacturing facilities. Since 2003, more than $800,000 in scholarship funds have been provided through the Lam Research Foundation, our charitable giving organization.

Our Core Values – which include achievement, honesty and integrity, mutual trust and respect, ownership and accountability, and teamwork – are what we believe, practice, and reward as important to our continued success. With this in mind, community leaders and Lam representatives looked at how students demonstrated these values, along with academic achievement, and school and community involvement.
