Lam Research Corporation Names Kenneth Thompson To Board Of Directors FREMONT, Calif., September 18, 1998 - Lam Research Corporation (Nasdaq: LRCX), a leading supplier of wafer fabrication equipment to the worldwide semiconductor industry, today announced the appointment of Kenneth Thompson to its Board of Directors, effective October 1, 1998. Thompson fills the vacancy recently created by the retirement of Mr. Osamu Kano.

Prior to joining the Board, Thompson was employed by Intel Corporation for 25 years in various management positions, most recently as vice president of Technology Manufacturing Engineering. Before joining Intel, Thompson worked with Ampex Corporation in its core memory group. Thompson currently serves on the boards of Silicon Valley Group, Inc., PRI Automation, Inc. and GaSonics International Corporation.
