Roger D. Emerick Steps Down From Lam Research Corporation's Board Of Directors FREMONT, Calif.-Jan. 23, 2001-Lam Research Corporation (Nasdaq: LRCX) today announced that Roger D. Emerick has stepped down from its Board of Directors.

Emerick held the position of chairman of the board and chief executive officer until 1997 when Lam merged with OnTrak Systems, Inc. In 1998, Emerick stepped down as chairman of Lam's Board although he remained a member of the Board.

"Roger's commitment and dedication to the company during the nearly 20 years he served as its leader established Lam as one of the largest semiconductor equipment suppliers in the world," stated James W. Bagley, Lam's chairman and chief executive officer. "On behalf of Lam Research, I would like to thank Roger for his contributions to the company and wish him well in his new endeavors."

Emerick has over 31 years experience in the semiconductor industry. He currently serves as a member of the boards of directors for Electroglas, Inc., Brooks Automation, Inc., and Advanced Thermal Technologies, Inc.
