Lam Announces Obtaining an Injunctive Order Against Kirim Semitec Enjoining the Manufacture, Sale, and Distribution of Electrodes Using Lam's Proprietary Design
November 18, 2002

FREMONT, Calif., November 18, 2002—Lam Research Corporation (Nasdaq: LRCX) today announced that it has obtained and enforced a preliminary injunction restraining Kirim Semitec Co., Ltd. from selling Lam proprietary electrodes. The injunction was issued by the District Court in Seoul, Korea. Lam had sought the injunction based on its belief that Kirim was selling products that violated Lam’s patents on those electrodes (U.S. Patent No. 6,073,577: Korean Patent No. 329974). In addition to those listed above, Lam holds a number of patents in multiple jurisdictions, including the United States, Korea, Japan, and Europe, which cover a variety of electrode assemblies and other high-quality, proprietary replacement parts.

“We are pleased that the Korean court upheld Lam’s patent rights on these electrodes,” said Jim Goodrich, Lam’s Senior Director of Materials in the Customer Support Business Group. “This enables the protection of Lam’s significant investments in new technologies and materials and supports our customers in achieving high productivity in the manufacturing of semiconductors.” Goodrich concluded stating, “We will continue to monitor our markets for potential patent infringement and take action to protect our investments, as necessary.”
