NOVELLUS SYSTEMS TO HOST ADVANCED COPPER INTERCONNECT SYMPOSIUM AT SEMICON WEST 2004

SAN JOSE, Calif., July 6, 2004--Novellus Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq NM: NVLS) will host a high-level advanced copper interconnect technology symposium on July 12, 2004 at San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. With presentations by four distinguished authorities on copper interconnect technologies at 45 nm and below, the symposium will highlight important research advances while providing a valuable discussion forum for microelectronics technologists from around the world.

The afternoon symposium will feature talks by the following prominent experts from institutions in the United States: Dr. James Watkins, University of Massachusetts; Dr. Ara Philipossian, University of Arizona; and Dr. Robert Rutenbar from Carnegie Mellon University. Rounding out the speaker line-up is Dr. Stephen Rossnagel from IBM's New York-based research division. The presentations will conclude with a panel discussion, moderated by Novellus' executive vice president and chief technical officer, Drs. Wilbert van den Hoek.
