Lam Research Foundation Announces US$250,000 Grant to Japan's Ashinaga Foundation Supporting Psychosocial Care for Orphans of Tohoku Quake

FREMONT, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 12/12/11 -- Lam Research Foundation, the charitable-giving arm of Lam Research Corp. (NASDAQ: LRCX), today announced a US$250,000 grant to Japan'sAshinaga Foundation supporting orphans of the March 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami.

The new grant, being made through U.S.-based nonprofit Give2Asia organization, will support the construction of the Tōhoku Rainbow House in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, which will provide day-to-day and long-term psychological support to children who lost their parents or whose parents were severely disabled by the disaster. The Ashinaga Foundation is also planning satellite facilities in Iwate and Fukushima Prefectures to provide similar services.

The 9.0 earthquake off Japan's northeast coast claimed nearly 16,000 lives and left hundreds of children homeless. Lam Research maintains eight offices and service centers across Japan, including one within 75 miles of the quake's epicenter. To date, Lam Research and its employees have donated US$550,000 to Japan earthquake relief efforts, including two previous gifts totaling US$300,000 to the American Red Cross.
