For many years, Lam’s internship and new graduate programs have provided up-and-coming young professionals with hands-on workplace experiences not possible in the classroom. Working in the cutting-edge and fast-paced semiconductor industry, they have an opportunity to grow in their field of interest alongside seasoned experts within a supportive and collaborative environment.
At Lam, we are committed to helping bright, enthusiastic new grads transition to successful and rewarding careers in the workplace, and participation in our internship program often paves the way for acceptance into our New College Graduate (NCG) program. We asked some of our NCGs from around the globe to share their experiences, and you can hear what they had to say in our article, A New Grad’s View of Worklife. Keep reading here to learn more about our internships.
During our 2017 summer program, interns in our California (Bay Area) and Oregon campuses participated in a full schedule of engaging activities. In addition to collaborating with employees on career-related projects, they attended welcome events, fun outings such as baseball games and bowling, and team-building exercises. Projects included helping to solve engineering challenges, collecting and analyzing data to optimize business unit performance, working with Lam’s wafer processing systems, and much more. The program also included talks and presentations from guest professors and Lam employees, providing the interns with firsthand insights into the semiconductor industry. Another benefit for participants is that they got the chance to experience our values-based corporate culture, including our focus on giving back to the community through volunteer activities.
To wrap up the summer intern program, the students wrote essays for a Core Values Scholarship on how they demonstrated Lam’s Core Values during their time with us. Selected winners were announced at an awards ceremony, where students were given the opportunity to attend an interactive luncheon with our CEO Martin Anstice and senior staff. Interns also prepared posters for presenting the projects they worked on during the program.
Here’s what some of our 2017 participants had to say about their experiences:
“This would be a great internship for those with research interests who also want to learn what it’s like to work in a company rather than a lab.
“This company’s strength is the number of professionals it employs who are very knowledgeable about their position and more than willing to share it when asked… not to mention the variety of tools in the lab that I could look at and could ask questions about with technicians and process engineers present.”
“Lam has a very professional environment that treats its employees with respect. Everyone is expected to accomplish their objectives, and they actually care about achieving a project’s goals.”
“Lam Research is good company with great vision, and I believe anyone who works here can learn a lot and develop themselves.”
“The opportunities provided during this internship are well beyond my expectations.”
